I was listening to a Winnie call, infamous “I heard how hard you fought one”, and just noticed this interesting comparison. Lorne blurts out something like, “I know more about the bar scene than you’ll ever know”. Not a direct quote as his is one of his incoherent, drunken Lorneisms, but the message is basically the same and in the context that he knows Winnie is trying to “get laid”. Just like the internet and chat rooms, Lorne believes that the only possible reason that someone would go to the bar is for shex.
We know that Lorne only used the Internet for shex, so it’s no surprise that he draws the conclusion that others who use it do so for the same reasons, but I wonder what in his bar experience created this. Sure, he did stalk women at the bar, but his main reason for going was for karaoke and hopes to break out as a country singer. He clearly knows that people go to bars for more reasons than getting pushy. It could very well just be a lack of trust in women, but I can’t help the feeling that it’s deeper than that.
I think that Lorne, being a jealous troglodyte, always watched his brothers and “friends” picking up chicks at the bar. He always left the bars drunk and alone, mumbling curses at them and despising the women for pairing with other men. Lorne has created this idea in his mind that women in bars mean that they will always hook up with men that aren’t him. When he hears about Winnie being at the bar, he instantly envisions his brothers hanging all over her while he drowns himself in Bud Lite, forcing a smile and pretending to laugh at their jokes as they hit on her, just hoping that maybe she sees though their “nice guy” disguises and realizes that the quiet, room temperature IQ troll sitting more or less alone beside the group is really the one she wants. It never happens. This traumatized him and now, even though Winnie states many times that she just went to the bar because she wanted to dance, he concludes that she will be going home with some other bguy for a romp in the sack.
