He jumped near Portland in light rain. Not favorable for jumping, but not the death sentence it's often made out to be.

Skipping any discussion on the jump, this is the best indication he didnt make it.

He had done some preparation on the highjacking, like scoping out the rear hatch on the plane model and asking for several parachutes. Maybe he had done a training jump or two... but he was woefully unprepared for how to walk out of the forrest. In rain, you might freeze to death in a single night in his equipment (or lack thereof).

I think the same thing. He died and the eruption burned up the rest of the money.

I watched some documentaries during the pandemic, and the case is very fascinating.

Here's my take. It kinda has the same vibe as those three prisoners that escaped Alcatraz in the early 60s. It would be fun to think that they made it and were drinking margaritas in Mexico for the rest of their lives. (They most likely drowned in the current.)

Same goes for DB Cooper. It would be fun to think that he managed to fool the FBI and got away with it. And lived with a smirk on his face for the rest of his life.

DB Cooper has a goodwill on his side, because he didn't hurt anyone. He was just come cool dude with a suit who pulled of a hijack, got a suitcase full of money and jumped with a parachute into the night and was never seen again. That's Hollywood-esque.

I also agree with the experts that given all the circumstances, he didn't make it. The cold, terrible weather. Pitch-dark night. And the fact Cooper couldn't have exactly known where he jumped off... No way he made it out alive. Also the fact the money was never used. His skeleton is up in the trees or in the bottom of a river or something.

The serial numbers of the Cooper money had been pre-recorded (specifically for this kind of incident) and were released following the hijacking, but it's not like every bank in the PNW was checking serial numbers on every $20 bill. It's true that none of the bills were known to be in circulation, but that doesn't mean they weren't (also doesn't mean they were). Once again, a mystery of this case.

Several copycats jumped and survived similar scenarios, but were later apprehended.
