I don't think anyone wants to believe Lorne, especially when he is weeping like a little bitch about how put upon by the world he is and how he's been taken advantage of. My personal bias is to believe every negative thing anyone says about Lorne and always assume he is lying, and I'm sure a lot of people here feel the same way. That being said, I think it is important to be aware of that inherent bias and look into things a bit deeper or this place may become an echo chamber where we believe and parrot progressively more delusional things that go unchallenged simply because they make Lorne look bad. Indeed, there have historically been bad faith actors who simply make up negative stories about Lorne that have no basis in fact or reality which gain some traction and persist for years because it is so tempting to uncritically accept every bad thing said about him as the truth. Sean Mcclure comes to mind.

That said here is the evidence:

1. Nikki lied to JJ about her relationship with Lorne

She completely downplays her relationship and interactions with Lorne, he is just a stalker who harassed her at her place of work in her account. According to probation, Lorne had her phone # and there was consensual communication happening back and forth (albeit with most of it occurring on Lorne's end). Obviously probation is a neutral party here and the most reputable source for what was going on, there is no reason to disbelieve them in favor of Nikki. The fact that she is lying here indicates there would be some good reason to lie, such as having accepted a significant sum of money or gifts from Lorne in a short period of time before breaking contact suddenly. Why would Nikki give this obvious creep her phone number and continue communicating with him for a period of at least several weeks when she was already in a relationship?

Lorne had never really borrowed money prior to this from what we can tell, frankly it doesn't seem like he knew how to. At the time of his sentencing for the sting, he had significant debts in the form of unpaid utility bills and jail fees but that's it. Bear in mind, he was living in an unfurnished poverty apartment like an animal and barely scraping by enough for some day to day expenses at terrible jobs. He had essentially no money when he went to go rape Kayla, not even enough for gas to go there and back again and there and back again. Even a $500 preapproved scam credit card would have been like mana from heaven to this guy at that point and he simply did not seem to know they exist or how to utilize one.

At the point in Lorne's life when he met Nikki, he was working at least full time at a decent job drive trawk and he had almost no living expenses or knowledge of consumer debt, he was actually in a really decent spot financially relative to the rest of his entire life. Then suddenly, he accrues over $11k in loans despite never getting one before then, and has absolutely nothing to show for it asset-wise (we know this from his bankruptcy filing as well). Where did the money go? Unfortunately the likeliest scenario is that much of it went exactly to where he says it did. It seems likely that Lorne was coached through these loans as well, because he is retarded and has demonstrated previously even when he is dead broke he did not know about them or could not figure them out.

3. Love bombing with money/gifts is super consistent with Lorne's past behavior

Lorne has consistently love bombed his siblings and catfish with extravagant gifts. We know he frittered away the Betty job money to friends and family almost immediately and had basically nothing by the time he got to Nashville. Even before leaving Maine he called Betty in tears about the fact he only had a can of peas to eat for dinner. His company failed because he was dividing income and eating all the expenses himself. And he was constantly buying stupid shit for Jamie. Even for Kayla he spent his last precious few dollars on that shitty bracelet. And it's not altruism either, he is absolutely trying to buy love from people. It's completely transactional. So spending $10k on a woman he just met and then deluding himself into believing he has "purchased her" is entirely in the realm of his demonstrated behavior in my opinion and could very easily be exploited.

So while I would love to believe Nikki, unfortunately her account of the situation directly contradicts probation and we can reasonably conclude she is lying about what happened, presumably with some motive to do so. And the picture painted by Lorne's finances is that someone coached him to take out a bunch of small loans from different financial institutions at the same time and that money basically disappeared into a void despite his relatively excellent financial situation at the time (for Lorne). 

*And now it is time for the mandatory disclaimer that none of this exonerates Lorne and he is still a piece of shit who tried to rape a child. He is retarded for thinking he could buy a woman, he was playing a stupid game and won a stupid prize and it's not in any way an excuse for his stalking and harassing behavior during and after their interactions. And this analysis does not constitute a moral indictment or judgement against Nikki, when life gives you lemons retarded pedophile stalkers make lemonade  $10k I say. I really don't care what happens to Lorne post-sting.
