Hi.
I am new here and I recently came into the knowledge that Jim was a predator, and I wanted to share my experience with him and you can ask me questions if you want. (though I have very limited details)
So I will tell my story of how I learned this first. I was a student of Willowville elementary school in Ohio, sometime in the 90s. At this time, Jim was teaching there as a music teacher and I was placed in his music class. So this was well before his offenses, and before he transferred over UC university. His offenses took place sometime in 2007 if I recall, so I was already in highschool and had completely forgotten about him. I didn't learn about his offenses until they were recently tearing down my elementary school. The staff had a memorial to come in and spend time in the school and look through albums before it was demolished. During this time, I had remembered my very odd memories of this man and asked one of my former teachers what had happened to him. She was hesitant to answer at first so this sparked my curiosity. I pressed for answers and she replied " Well he was sent to jail..." and didnt elaborate further, clearly uncomfortable about it, but she told me I could find all the info if I looked it up. So I did. Thats what brought me here, and I sat through all the interview footage and such.
I just wanted to share my limited experiences with him in the early 90s for anyone who cares, and to give a deeper look into the man, because I remember him standing out for his odd behavior back then. Its also sort of scary to learn that this man was a predator in a time when I was a child, and he taught elementary school. I feel like not alot of people know these details about him, so I thought it prudent to share with you all.
He was our music teacher, at Willowville Elementary School in Batavia Ohio. He taught in a large open room, and he'd expose us to various music he liked. He had tons of equipment in the room, and also had us all sing along to music from time to time. He never really taught us to use any instruments from what I remember, but we were kids and my memory is hazy.
One memory I have of him was that he was usually grumpy or ill tempered, and I vividly remember the other kids calling him "Rauch the Grouch" or "Mr. Grouch".
Another memory I have, and most scary, is that he came into our -music- class one day, halted the entire class to sit us all down, and proceeded to launch an entire epic rant about how unhealthy foods were these days. He taught us that potato chips had tar in them, the same tar that was in the pavement in the street, and noone should eat them, and we would get sick, die, or get fat. I remember hearing around school that several girls went home crying and worried to their parents that this would happen to them, and they could no longer eat potato chips. A few days or weeks later (I cant remember its all still hazy and time elapses different as a kid) We mysteriously never saw him again, and he was replaced with a new music teacher for the rest of my stay at that school. -- I remember this vividly happening, and I didnt think anything of it at the time, but looking back at it, it was clear that Jim was maybe drunk, or too unstable to be around children. I speculate that his disappearance was him being removed for this outburst and replaced. I never saw him again after this and did not hear or think about him until I discovered Jim's antics after I spoke to my old teacher.
You can ask me questions if you'd like, but Im not sure what more I can remember about him other than these things. Maybe someone will resurface an old memory, but this is all I really remember and wanted to share it.
I do have my old yearbook and can take a few pictures of him appearing in it if any are interested.
