9/11: I barely remember since I was only 4 but I do remember being in the basement of our home and then having to go with my mom to pick up my sister since they shut down all the schools for the day, even here in Canada.
Sandy Hook: I was in 10th grade on a school computer in the library and saw "20+ dead in elementary school shooting" thinking it was somewhere like Afghanistan or Nigeria or something but then I read Connecticut and was like "OH SHIT"
Death of Michael Jackson: It was right after my 12th birthday and I was having a sleepover with my friend since the school year had just ended. I remember running to the living room and telling my parents immediately because I knew it was a big deal.
November 2015 Paris attacks: This was right after I had graduated high school and I remember I was in my room on a Skype call with my friends. When I found out Eagles of Death Metal were involved my heart sank.
Christchurch mosque shootings: I had just gotten home from work, the shootings started at 1:40 NZ time but was 8:40 in my time zone. I got a copy of the original FB stream from /pol/ and was probably one of the first few thousand people to watch it.
2008 election: I remember my mom switching the channel because she wanted my sister and I to "experience this historic moment" and my dad complaining because he wanted to watch something lmao
2016 election: I was at work following the election results intensively, hoping Trump would win for the LOLs, although Clinton winning would still be hilarious. After Trump had surpassed 270 electoral votes I remember just taking a moment to be like "wow... a reality TV star is really the President of the USA now."
Boston Marathon bombing: I followed this one really closely too, I remember scoffing at all the dumb takes on /r/FindBostonBombers. The shootout/chase in Watertown was intense to follow too. I still have the photo of Dzhokhar with the red laser dot on him in the boat emblazoned into my memory.
Moncton shootings: My friends and I spent our lunch periods talking about the manhunt and speculating how long he'd be able to hold out, and what his strategies could have been. It was crazy seeing Moncton in complete lockdown.
