DISCLAIMER: I am not saying O'Brien should get off the hook. He still broke the law, 15 is still a minor.
So, I did not watch this one live, I was feeling too tired to wait for this one to be shown. I am glad I slept to be honest, because by golly, this was not at all fun to watch unlike 99% of TCAP/HVP segments.
Had O'Brien solicited a 12 or 13 year old, he deserves everything he gets. But when I heard that he actually was looking for a fifteen year old, I immediately cringed. Yes, what he did was illegal and so nobody can really challenge the crimes he is likely to be convicted for. That said, the age gap is way too small for me to properly hate him unlike every single other predator that was caught. You know, this reminds me of the time when Frag busted an eighteen year old before TCAP, where originally the decoy was 14, but he changed it to 12, and the guy still showed up. That's what they should have done here, to eliminate the sympathy card.
So, he gets arrested and immediately cries, with some of the cops actually saying "sorry" to the guy!! Apparently, he wasn't even 18 when the COVID-19 pandemic started. Heck, I am three years older than him, and in fact, Clifford Wallach's SON is older than him. Hansen was a bit more sympathetic to the guy, like he is with most of the younger individuals he has confronted, but even then it just didn't feel "right" to be quite honest. The sheriff looked and acted like a total prick as per usual, if only we had Gary MacNamara in his place.
The whole discussing about the fact he was adopted by loving parents also makes me very uncomfortable. And finally, this has been the only time in TCAP/HvP history where I actually really didn't want the cameras to come out. I mean, this guy has already ruined his life and stuff, do we really need to continue kicking him while he was down? To give him some credit, he handled the revelation very well, and managed to get out with some dignity (unlike Lorne), buttplug and all.
So, to conclude, this is perhaps the most unwatchable segment in predator history. Maybe it will become more "watchable", if it turns out O'Brien actually abused his role as a babysitter, had a gross chatlog and/or reoffends. But for now, I am not going to watch this segment because, as I mentioned before, this was not fun, not even on a "at least another predator is off the streets" take.
O'Brien is a fucking idiot, nobody can deny that. Is he a definite predator? Well, it remains to be seen.
