We've been having some good discussions lately regarding narcissism and predators (and Hansen).
I decided to compile a list of predators that may indeed be narcissists.
I base this off of general knowledge regarding the trait, and my own real life interactions with narcissists.
I'm not a doctor so I can't bring an official probability to this; just some good old fashioned armchair diagnosis.
Please feel free to add to the list or disagree with a pick. Also feel free to contribute any information regarding other disorders/personality traits certain predators may have.
1. Lorne Armstrong- I have mentioned many times this man is a narcissist. He is mocked and ridiculed a lot in the fandom, which while in good fun, should never nullify just how dangerous this man is. He is underestimated, which can be a mistake as predators like him have an advantage when they are not seen as a threat. Lorne has a lot of hallmarks of narcissism:
-He is never wrong. He sees everyone else as the ones that are wrong.
-Everything is someone else's fault. No matter what it is, he is never responsible. This is why he has had so many problems with his classes. He doesn't see what he did as wrong or insidious, so he refuses to admit responsibility for his crimes.
-Lorne sees people according to their value to attain his impulses. Only his impulses and a way to attain them matter to Lorne.
-He is a user; he drains his relatives of their financial assets, he stole money from an elderly woman, he attempted to sexually exploit a child
-He is manipulative: he has established grooming techniques for children, he attempts to be friendly and sweet to females he wants to use sexually, he pretends to be sexually submissive
-He is volatile when he doesn't get his way; he becomes verbally abusive and no doubt would be physically violent if he had to be
2. Kevin Westerbeck
-Believes he is entitled to pursue his impulses regardless of the situation; pending sentencing he was attempting to have sex with a minor
-Manipulative-we have no evidence, but I would wager Westerbeck would use his stature to his advantage to appear nonthreatening
-Established blame on the decoy during his processing. At one point he is describing what occurred prior to him coming to the sting house. He says he sat down to check his messages, and the decoy had messaged him saying "hey, where are you, I want to see you, etc.". That may seem far-fetched to some, but it appears to me to be an attempt to deflect blame onto the decoy, as in "she led me on".
3. Dustin McPhetridge
-Uses his disability to deflect blame and responsibility;even attempted to get released to the custody of his mother
-Manipulative;he clearly has a hold on his mother and has used her to get him out of trouble
-Established blame on the decoy; claimed she led him on, etc.
4.Dr. Wolin
On the fence with Wolin (he may just be arrogant as hell), but he has some attributes:
-Manipulative; many times in the chat he attempts to portray himself as a nice friend type while emotionally manipulating what he thinks is a minor. He also attempts to use material possessions to impress the decoy (fast expensive cars, etc.). If all Wolin wanted was an affair, he could have easily used the material tactics and his status as a doctor to snag an adult woman; his attempt to catch a minor show he has a thing for control. I suspect Wolin probably wasn't the "boss" in his household, and he craved control and respect.
-Refusal to accept responsibility for what he did; he believed he was in the right so strongly he drained quite a bit of funds into his defense; no doubt this was motivated by a desire to keep his status and license, but I'm sure he truly believed he did nothing wrong.
5. Jeff Sokol
-Craved control. Jeff probably had a condescending, toxic personality which he failed to hide. I would wager a lot of relationships with adult women went south as they tired of his nonsense and called him out on it. The thought of a naive young minor absolutely in thrall with his every want and desire probably was very appealing to someone who obviously thought he was the smartest person in the room.
- Jeff definitely has a superiority complex. He probably sees himself as handsome, powerful, charming, and intelligent. He probably reasoned he could easily fool or impress the police and Hansen. While he may have been nervous about what he had gotten himself into, he no doubt thought he could talk his way out of it or throw resources at it to make it go away.
Any more predators you can think of that may fit the bill?
Disagree with any of these picks?
Want to add any more attributes to these picks?
Please feel free to.
Also, remember this is just speculation. I'm not a doctor and even if I were I couldn't diagnose these guys if I never saw them.
