I notice this big time with Louis CK. Contrast the reaction to his sexual harassment with that of Harvey Weinstein. Their stories are remarkably similar; both had MO's of cornering women and masturbating in front of them. Weinstein has been accused of taking it further and raping women but there is no proof of this, save for an audiotape where he apologises for groping a woman while pleading with her to come into his room, before letting her go of her own volition [hardly THAT damning]. Again, there're similarities to Louis here with his accusers giving accounts of him apologising to them on Facebook, and also, and this is slightly worrying, getting them confused with someone else and apologising for "shoving them into a bathroom" one time. For gods sake, one of Weinstein's accusers published a video of herself aggressively flirting with Weinstein during a business meeting as if that was proof of his misbehaviour.

On one hand, Louis CK has a fanbase who are aggressively victim blaming and excusing his behaviour as harmless - "he asked for consent" - while flagrantly ignoring the power dynamics involved. Meanwhile Harvey Weinstein cums into a flower pot and the consensus seems to be that he should be sent to prison for life.

It's easy to understand really. Louis CK is an artist and people want to vindicate their continued consumption of his art. And, selfishly, they don't want to cease getting any more material because of his transgressions. Meanwhile, Weinstein is a relatively faceless Hollywood producer, and it's not like him being sent to a gulag is going to stop people from getting a new Iron Man movie or a new Avengers movie. Also, the whole Jew angle.

Even before the Louis CK accusations came out I was on to him, hiding in plain sight like Jimmy Savile [not to compare the two] with the references to his real life proclivities both in his standup material and his TV show. I also thought it was way too transparent how he cultivated this image as a feminist sympathiser, and wrote his real life daughters into his TV show and comedy routines in order to appear less perverted and more harmless.

I hope not, but I've seen plenty of people post here who criticize Hansen and PJ as well as excusing the younger predators because of their age and giving Jeff Stacey a pass because the decoy was 15.

I make that decision for myself. If the act is particularly bad, it may sour their work for me, but I don’t actively boycott for some moral stance. For instance, the Louis CK thing kinda turned me off to him, but I was already fading away from him anyway.

The person and the artist are separate for me. If a musician I liked turned out to be a murdering rapist I'm still going to like and listen to his music.

Granted I might no longer listen to it on full blast in the car with the windows down anymore but in the privacy of my own home.
