This is adapted from a lengthy Facebook comment I made. I'm kind of surprised this topic didn't pop up before so I toss it out here. Maybe others will comment on it or maybe it will die on the vine....
I think the cancellation of Roseanne is crap because liberals can say, write, or publish pretty much anything they want about the President, his family or pretty much anyone on the Right with little or no consequences. No matter how unpleasant, inappropriate or uncalled for it is, the Left will guffaw and slap each other on the back. If you criticize it or suggest they lose their job for saying something or doing something, they will (often incorrectly) try to wrap themselves in the First Amendment.
For a bunch of people who consider themselves so well educated, witty and smart, they sure don't seem to be able to find a better way to express their displeasure with the current administration.
I think ABC wanted the publicity of rebooting Roseanne, reboots are big business in entertainment these days (I guess no one can come up with any new ideas). I don't think they thought it would be so wildly successful. When it was, I suspect that the liberals who worked were upset to have not only a lead actor, but also a wildly popular lead character who was an enthusiastic, unapologetic supporter of President Trump and were looking for any reason to get rid of her.
It's not like she didn't post stuff like this before they hired her for the reboot.
They knew who she was when they hired her. Her co-stars knew what she was about when they took the job. The writers, producers and *everyone* knew that Barr was an out and proud supporter of Donald Trump and could produce tweets and make comments that could make people cringe. Now they act like her loose cannon tweets are some kind of shock.
Shame on ABC and everyone involved with the decision to cancel the show.
One of the reasons I liked this show (and the first few seasons of the original) is that in The Conners and their friends, I saw the blue collar, working class families that I grew up with. Their houses were cramped and kids shared a room; their cars were older and when (not if) they broke down, there might not be enough money or credit to pay for expensive repairs; they work part time second jobs in order to make ends meet. They say things that are offensive and hold attitudes and beliefs that aren't in sync with the coastal liberals; some of them hold their noses and vote Democratic because their union or someone they respect tells them to, not because they agree with some of the key positions.
It's funny that the only spinoff being discussed will feature the only Conner who has a college degree and lived in a city. Not the child who is struggling to adjust to life outside the military (and a wife overseas), not the child who is a middle aged, single woman trying to live on a waitresses salary. Funny that.
With the death of this reboot, huge swaths of America no longer have any TV shows that reflect their lives with any kind of accuracy or empathy. Way to go ABC, way to go.

- Samantha Bee used a disgusting word (probably one of the most disgusting ones you can lob at a woman) to refer to Ivanka Trump and all she lost was a couple of advertisers. For a few weeks afterward, people were contorting themselves to justify calling a woman a cunt was OK. Bee still has her TV show.
- The Huffington Post regularly publishes Jim Carey's pictures of the President. Many put him and others in his cabinet in sexual or sexualized situations and are obviously meant to be mocking and critical. Try that with the Obamas or Clintons.
- Stephen Colbert fawned all over that narcissist Bill Clinton and gave him a platform to explain his recent comments. Of course, Clinton's explanation still makes him out to be the victim. Not Monica Lewinsky, not the American people, not even his family. He whined about having to live with it every day.
- Rosie O'Donnell out and out said Baron Trump was autistic. Can you imagine if someone had said something like that about Sasha Obama?
Imagine if Rosanne Barr or Tim Allen had posed for a picture of themselves holding a bloodied mannequin head that looked like President Obama; The left would have had a motherfucking meltdown.
For a bunch of people who consider themselves so well educated, witty and smart, they sure don't seem to be able to find a better way to express their displeasure with the current administration.
