I feel this started with the assumed intellectually disabled niece. Probably used general chatting about school to find out how into boys she was and then probe her with questions along the lines of if he was his niece's classmate would she date him, does she think he's pretty. Lorne used these conversations to see how often his niece would redirect the chat if the sex talk became too much or embarrassing or to talk about something she does know.
