Within 5 minutes of initiating his chat with Kayla, Lorne offers to turn on his webcam to introduce her to his dog, which is right up there in the predator playbook with driving a van and offering candy to children. I've heard people claim that Lorne was a victim of "entrapment" or that Dateline and Perverted Justice somehow "wronged" him by toying with his emotions. Mostly these claims come from Lorne himself, but there are casual observers out there who actually believe this. So literally 5 minutes in to the chat log, Lorne is already scheming to get his cam on so that he can show Mr. Penis to a 13-year-old girl. Right around this point he talks about giving Daisy away to his nephew.
lorne_a_20014 (09/17/07 9:28:49 PM): you can see Bud on cam too, i gave daisy away to my nephew before i moved here to nashville
kayla_princess94 (09/17/07 9:29:09 PM): aww u gave her away
lorne_a_20014 (09/17/07 9:29:50 PM): yeah, i really wasn't very happy too but i thought it would be best for her because my nephew and his wife have a dog just like her
kayla_princess94 (09/17/07 9:31:37 PM): kewl
So why did Lorne really give Daisy away? His nephew and his nephew's wife had a dog "just like Daisy". I'm not a dog owner, so maybe I'm not aware of some of the finer points of dog behavior and companionship, but does a dog need to be with another dog of the same breed or "type" in order to be happy and thrive? I've always felt that if I were to get a dog, then caring for that animal would be something I would be committing myself to and I can't just give it away if it becomes inconvenient.
I've known a couple people who moved to different states and got rid of their cats because the cats "can't handle the trip", which sounded like a convenient excuse to me. But I've never heard a person claim that they need to give away their dog to be with another dog that was just like him or her. Did Lorne just get tired of having Daisy around? It's strange, because he loves to talk about his dogs and he seems to genuinely believe that he treats them well (despite tying them to treadmills). So why would he do that?
