I wouldnt mind Lorne to be racist but he seems rather indifferent to race, like many born in the 60s and 70s. He's from the post jim crow - pre millenial generation. Racism usually (in my experience) occurs where there is a struggle between ethnic groups, competition for resources, jobs, women (and rarer men), space, or linguistic dominance. The politicial aspect, which is played up all the time, hardly seems to matter much. Lorne comes from Maine, where this was not much of a thing.
And to respond to another poster, yes people do make an assumption of a person being racist by where they are from and what they look like. All the time. I have experienced it, I have know white southerners with very tolerant attitudes being accused of being racist because they say things like "Y'all" and "Fixin' to"
