To me Lorne has two uses to a woman: Money (when he has it or can borrow it) and attention. My head canon tells me that Paula did go over there to get drunk and attempt to have sex with him, not because she was attracted to him, but because she was seeking validation after some kind of issue in her relationship. Desperate, lonely, depressed people will sometimes try anything to distract themselves and it might feel good to a damaged ego to milk someone like Lorne who will freely lavish attention and concern for someone vulnerable.
I've known guys and girls who have done similar things when they're spiraling that they'd never do in their right state of mind. I think in this inebriated, desperate state Paula tried to have sex with him and either A.) Lorne finished quickly American Pie style B.) It was immediately apparent that he didn't know he was doing and she changed her mind C.) He couldn't get it up because he's primarily attracted to children. His desire for adult women is limited to a validation trophy and surrogate mother or D.) some combination of the above
Every other detail that supposedly happened during and after was manufactured by Lorne to save his pride. Thinking that a suicide would beget reverence and affection from someone is classic 87 logic to me.
I think he was truthful when he told the psych report doctor that he didn't have sex with Paula, but I do think that he tried. Afterwards she likely called her boyfriend and was eager to patch things up. As for why he took her in the first place she probably lied to him about what she was going and/or it was an attempt to scam him.
Everyone else's ideas are logical conclusions in my opinion. This is simply what I believe is most likely. One thing we can all probably agree to is that we'll never know the truth. Incidentally do we know where Blu3boy got the photo from?
