Who do you regard as the face of the franchise, so to speak? Who is the crown jewel of TCAP? Is it Lorne or is it Sokol?
Lorne's actual appearance on TV was largely forgettable. You don't really get the full breadth of his significance until you dive into the post TCAP world of Lornography, which is definitely very niche. When I first realized there was a subculture of Lorne fans, and hours upon hours of Lorne being catfished, drunk-raging, and just generally being a dumbass, I was actually more shocked than amused. The rabid Lorne followers are strange birds, and while I haven't really spent a ton of time probing the depth of the Church of Cawd, it seems like it's largely inhabited by a small, but devoted base of fans who get off on Lorne as an perpetual lolcow. That it took Chris Hansen (who himself has milked TCAP for an entire career) this long to get to Lorne in his podcast series is significant. However, he is giving Lorne's podcast a multi-part treatment, which also reflects Lorne's elite status and import.
Jeff Sokol's bit has racked up more hits than any other predator's, and it's not even close. In spite of appearing in the middle-era HVP, his segment is one of the longest and most compelling. He is reviled for his steely bombast and nonchalance during the confrontation. While Lorne can cast a jolly, bumpkin likeability at times, Sokol only come across as arrogant and prickly. There's just something about his look and his mannerisms that really draw ire and views. His subterranean lifestyle post-TCAP has also made him a white whale, as opposed to Lorne, whose Trailer of Failure is captured by passerbyers nearly daily.
Which guyyyyy do you see as the crown jewel of TCAP, and why? Which one do you loathe more? In a decade or two, or however long people collectively remember and discuss TCAP, who stands at the top of the peak?
