Whoa hey there wait a minute all these months of build up and the final diagnosis slips into this thread like a thief in the night?
I've never heard of it, I'll have to check it out.
Edit: This is interesting stuff
-love of music
-hyperaffibility and lack of social inhibition
-mild-moderate mental retardation
-short stature
-genitourinary issues and hypercalcemia (could be contributing to all his kidney stones and the testicular calcium deposits?)
-teeth and enamel issues
-speech featuring unusual terms and strange idioms
-joint issues (he had some weird shit going on in the prison journal)
-unusually high muscle tone in adulthood
-audio issues (resembling noise induced hearing loss, but from a malfunctioning auditory nerve)
-occular misalignment and nystagmus
-"People with Williams syndrome report higher anxiety levels" well that fucking clinches it doesn't it?
I found this particularly interesting "Despite their physical and cognitive deficits, people with Williams syndrome exhibit impressive social and verbal abilities. Williams patients can be highly verbal relative to their IQ. When children with Williams syndrome are asked to name an array of animals, they may well list a wild assortment of creatures such as a koala, saber-toothed cat, vulture, unicorn, sea lion, yak, ibex and Brontosaurus, a far greater verbal array than would be expected of children with IQs in the 60s."
Looks like they usually have congenital heart disease and sensitivity to sound which I don't know if I've ever heard Lorne mention that.
These are the top pics on a random search for the syndrome, not hand picked. Tell me you're not seeing part of Lorne there.
Yeah... I read diagnosing the condition by face alone is difficult even for trained physicians but you've got the full cheeks, puffy eyes, long philtrum, small chin, thick lower lip etc. I think I can see it in Lorne.
I have argued before a while back in the past that I don't think Lorne is retarded but one thing that changed my mind in a big way was seeing how his family treats him, they treat him like a special person. When they are doing the 10 mile yard sale he just collects a bunch of worthless garbage and his relatives buy it off him to make him happy. Mawm takes him to burger king when he has a big day with probation and has to take a polygraph and lets him get 2 drinks. I think it was Aunt Sharon who told the court to "leave that kid alone" when he was in his late forties. They have basically had him supervised his entire life like he's in assisted living except for the brief period he was in Nashville, which was completely disastrous.
I don't think his family consciously is aware that Lorne is retarded, but their treatment of him which has developed over time demonstrates they know something is wrong. Just think about it, they would have seen the shrine in his house with little plastic karaoke trophies, IN PERSON. What else could you make of that?
I'm not a Dr. but I am almost certain he is retarded and this flavor seems to fit well. This would explain a lot of his most bizarre behavior and overarching over-sociability aside there are so many weird little nuances of it that fit Lorne perfectly it's almost like someone wrote the wikipedia article on the condition about Lorne specifically.
For the sake of argument, what do you make of this "Most affected people are unable to spatially orient themselves and many experience difficulty when given a task that requires even the most basic visual problem-solving. Many adults with Williams syndrome cannot complete a simple six-piece puzzle designed for young children, for example. These visuospatial deficits may be related to damage to the dorsal cortical pathway for visual processing."
Do we have any examples of this sort of extreme struggle with visual problem solving? I would think being unable to spatially orient yourself might make something like being a trucker very difficult or impossible as well since you are having to be spatially aware of the vehicle and memorize routes and such. Like you said though not every person would have every symptom, and it seems like the condition is only recognized at its worst and is chronically underdiagnosed when it's milder.
If anyone is still catfishing Lorne, see if he can do a children's puzzle!
