Hiding her from Probation can be explained because he clearly knows on some level how awful he comes off even if he thinks he's justified. He didn't want Probation to see the texts because they were profane, paranoid and the amount of them was crazy.
It's the same thing with him getting pissy about JaimeBot reading his texts back to him at the end of Lornemas In July. He's aware of how bad he looks and doesn't want anyone else to hear it.
Do we really know what, if any steps Lorne took with Nikki though regarding getting his money back? He hasn't mentioned anything but he's also very flighty on when he'll discuss her and to what length. Since it was pre-catfish we'll probably never know. He pissed and moaned about the ladder but Reborne said in the stream he played the call in that Lorne basically forgot about it and it never really came up again. He's full of shit and constantly threatening people with legal action and lawl enforcement.
I dunno, maybe. But Stepdad Lorne just seems way too crafty and high effort for him. I'm also of the opinion he'd prefer a girl that can't be directly traced back to him because he's a little weasel and is naturally a skulking coward. It's why I don't think he ever did anything physical to his nieces, he seems much more the type to want some degree of separation because of his inherently craven nature.
Because if the answer is that Lorne thought he and the kids would be in the same place at least some of the time and he was taking steps to prevent probation from knowing what was going on throughout the whole thing that is extremely slimy. My biggest concern for Lorne post-incarceration is that he would somehow get shacked up with a messed up single mother and abuse her children, and while I don't think he got very close here it seems to me that's exactly what he was angling for.
Obviously Nikki wasn't operating in good faith here and vetoed the whole thing before it could become an issue, probation caught on that something was up pretty quickly too. But it's the apparent attempt itself that's unsettling.
It's like watching a leech wriggle around in a glass jar, completely disgusting to observe it try despite the fact it can't really get to anyone.
I don't know that Lorne even considered it. The dude is incredibly dim and shortsighted and may not have really seen that far past "Nikki will take my virginity if I help her".
It's also unclear how much he really knows about his restrictions and how much of it is lying because he's such a fucking imbecile. He tells Jaime that Baby Will can live with them no problem and he can adopt but I am not even remotely convinced that's true. But whether or not Lorne knows it is another issue and that'd be a huge factor in this. His powers of delusion, willful ignorance and stupidity are powerful.
I agree with you that Probation would have put the kibosh on Stepdad Lorne either way though.
