I would like to take some time to purge my thoughts and opinions on this series. I have a two hour commute to work by train, and spend the majority of it listening to Lorne catfish calls. About a month ago, I decided to start the journey down the Blu3Boy rabbit hole.
I heard all these calls when they first came out. I didn’t like the material then because the calls were so out of sequence, I didn’t know what was going on. And for this catfish series, its far more enjoyable when you can follow the story. Thank you, Sigmund, for taking the time to place them in order, along with the emails, as it has greatly enhanced this entire catfish saga.
With Lorne’s previous catfish, it almost didn’t matter if you had any context or not because the entertainment was Lorne raging out, drunk out of his mind. With Jamie, he was sober, but still the calls were designed to get him to rage out, so the pure comedy from these calls didn’t require much background.
Blu3Boy (BB) is a whole other kind of catfish. The strategy had to change for this round because Lorne had gotten weary and paranoid by this point. He’s been through so many catfish that by the time BB gets to him, he’s very cautious. However, he just can’t resist the thought of Casey wanting to talk to him.
So, BB does a great job. Let’s get that right. His patience needs to be recognized. He has an infinite amount of it, as it’s easy to tell he is an intelligent person trying to have an intelligent conversation with a complete ape. I cannot imagine the frustration he has felt on so many occasions trying to have a normal two-way conversation with this idiot, who cannot comprehend anything.
Through this series, BB keeps a steady line with Lorne trying desperately to gain Casey’s trust and affection while simultaneously getting mad/jealous about Alex, while also becoming standoffish/paranoid. Lorne goes through a variety of emotions during this series. BB does an excellent job of appearing like a real girl, by acting very nonchalant about talking to Lorne and demanding proof of him not being a pedophile before committing to coming to Maine. BB put Lorne through some serious trials, asking hard questions, while maintaining a laid back attitude the whole time. He gets Lorne to tell him something, shut down, and tell him more in the length of one phone call. He sets these rules with Lorne and keeps them steady despite Lorne trying like hell to skew the lines of those rules over and over.
I love BB’s use of Lorneisms like “weren’t” (I weren’t buying beer) and “oh dang!” (sting narration) , among others that I cant think of right now. Also, whenever he realizes Lorne cant hear him, he calls him a dumbass bitch LOL.
I have to admit some of the calls are hard to listen to, mostly because of the round and round of Lorne not understanding simple concepts or the 5000 probation officer related names he keeps using (Ashley, Sean, Julie, unnamed polygrapher, yada yada). Theres also a lot of headphones hearing issues, leading to much “can you hear me?” back and forth.
I love the themes in this series, like homing in on Lorne’s view of love, what it means to him (Casey, I’ve loved you for a lawwwng tyme) and what his warped definition of it is. BB does a deep dive into this subject which I appreciated as I have wondered this to myself while listening to other catfish calls. Then there’s the sex talk, which is very revealing. He sticks his tongue in and to the left to get to the G Spawt and the outer clit! What a tool. Also, what Lorne’s definition of a “date” is, showing how he is obviously very inexperienced in this area and simultaneously equates a date with mostly touching each other LOL. I can’t believe he thought taking a shower together and playing twister would be great first date activities.
This is such a roller coaster ride through Lorne’s mind, its incredible. The stories he makes up about his past sexual experiences and the stuff that has happened to him in his life are so ridiculous. The toe fuck story, the whole Paula thing, where he basically unknowingly reveals that he was a barfly stalker and he found some slut that was using every guy she could find to live her best life, and she found this incredibly gullible idiot to follow her around and do whatever she wanted, and he definitely didn’t fuck her buzzy. But oh yeah, he loved her for 25 years. Sad.
Quick excerpts:
• Lets go to the mall, and check out Fart Jars
• Ive never told anyone this – I had a wet dream
• The throuple was bad for ahs, but we are the best two people it could have happened to
• Roy is slinging dong all over town
• I slid my toe in, we was flirtin
• You blocked us? Oh when?
Its also interesting to hear what he knows about his previous catfish vs what the reality is. He is very stuck on Winnie and Emma being two different people, as he was head over heels (or ass over tea kettle, or whatever dumb expression he uses) for Winne and how Emma was a pizza chit. He was so shocked to hear Jamie was Will, and I don’t think he could rationally wrap his head around it. There are times BB is explaining these things to him and you can almost hear Lorne rewinding all his previous conversations with these people with these new revelations, probably resulting in a blue screen of death in Lorne’s mind. 404 Error Server Not Found.
OK so sorry for the long winded post, but this makes up for my prolonged lurking and no commenting. Thanks for reading.
